Ah, glorious vacation. It is time to sit back, relax and enjoy yourself! But to get to that wonderful state of mind, you have to do something absolutely dreadful. That's right, I'm talking about packing.
Packing is pitiful and by far, BY FAR the worst part of a vacation. So, here are some tips to make the awful packing chore a little easier.
Roll, don't Fold your clothes. Don't ask me why this works, but it honestly does save a lot of space in your suitcase. And pack clothes that you can get more than one wear out of, that way you can pack a little lighter. Bonus points for you if you have access to laundry services where you travel! If you are going away for a while, consider using compression bags.
Make a list and check it twice. I start my packing list the moment that I think, "oh, I hope I don't forget to bring that!" You'll be much more likely to pack all of the knick knacks that will make your trip easier.
Plan to pack the day before. That way you can take your time and will be less likely to forget things. Trust me, you'll be packing up until right before you go. There will be some items that you just have to pack before you leave because you'll be using!
For the Flight: Do your research. If you are flying, the costs for checking a bag can be astonomical. But TSA is going through everyone's carry-ons as well. If fitting everything in a carry-on bag is a possibility for you, keep in mind that all toiletries and make up must be in clear bags and that they will confiscate any liquid or gel containers larger than 3.4 oz. Also, maximize your personal item! You get 1 carry on and 1 personal item! Don't pack a small purse, bring a tote and stock it up! And remember to keep all of your essentials with you, not checked. Keep your cash, ID, passport, wallet, jewelry, phone and anything else that is special on you!
Traveling with Kids: I stop by the dollar store and buy a bunch of new toys, coloring books, stickers, etc. That way they have something new and interesting to play with when they need it. It makes my life a little easier.
That's it! You are all set to enjoy your vacation!
